Thies Presents Land of Lincoln Awards

At the Annual board/staff lunch of Land of Lincoln Legal Aid (LOL), John Thies, President of LOL and WT shareholder presented honors to Ethel Sylvester and Felicia Voelkel.

Sylvester was recognized for her service as a client representative to the LOL Board, which she served for more than 30 years (until her recent retirement). She has been a champion for the empowerment of clients and for LOL providing the highest quality legal services. In 2014, Sylvester was awarded the National Legal Aid and Defender Association’s prestigious Mary Ellen Hamilton Award which recognizes a legal aid client who has supported or provided extraordinary legal services to low-income individuals.

Voelkel was recognized as this year’s recipient of the Joseph Bartylak Advocacy Award. She is a paralegal in LOL’s Central Regional Office, and was honored for her numerous contributions to helping LOL achieve its mission of meeting the legal needs of low income individuals and seniors. In the past year and a half, Voelkel closed more than 850 cases within her office’s Senior Project. Her immeasurable patience and kindness consistently garner rave reviews from LOL clients.
